Apples
An apple a day … there may be more truth than you might imagine in that old adage. Apples have been found to be one of the best sources of immune boosting antioxidants in our diet. In particular, apples are a good source of the flavonoid antioxidant compound known as quercetin.
Quercetin is a potent antioxidant that reduces inflammation in the lungs and airways. It has been found to work as an anti-histamine in cells. Research shows that quercetin is capable of decreasing the inflammatory response in the mucous membranes of the nose & mouth, so it could have an important role of play in respiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis.
Quercetin also may help those suffering from sinusitis by blocking allergic reactions as well as functioning as a natural antihistamine.
Other food sources of quercetin: Cabbage, green, Cranberries, Kale, Pears, Grapes, Apples, Onions, Garlic, Spinach, Grapefruit.
